Power major Tata Power will set up India's largest carport at Tata Motors, Chikhali, Pune in Maharashtra. The company inked a deal with Tata Motors to set up a 6.2 MWp project which will in due course reduce 1.6 lakh tonnes of carbon emission for Tata Motors in its lifetime.
Tata Power in its press release said that the grid-connected carport plant requires high-level engineering and customized designing to assemble the gigantic carport structures. The company which is famous for its R&D and innovations will use advance technology and intricate planning to execute this project.
Shedding light on the project, Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power said, "As One Tata initiative we are excited to partner with Tata Motors to set the largest carport in India. We are confident that this PPA will complement our efforts to lower the carbon footprint and we look forward to exploring new ways to harness clean resources and implement them in our business operations."
Speaking about the new installation, Rajesh Khatri, Vice President PV Operations, Tata Motors said, "We are looking forward to setting up India’s largest solar carport with Tata Power as this will help us reduce our carbon emissions. We are extremely excited about the eco-friendly future operations and energy consumption."
With electricity costs becoming unpredictable and prone to rate increases, solar ports, which minimize energy expenses and increase savings substantially, are gaining popularity. Tata Power’s move in setting up such a large carport will be crucial in reducing costs of maintaining a parking lot, reducing carbon footprint, making efficient use of space, and adaptability.

In addition, Tata Power Solar is also carrying out an extensive residential rooftop programme across the length and breadth of the country to make people aware of the benefits of savings through solar.
