India’s coal imports fell 22.5% week-on-week to 3.85 MT during 18–24 October, reversing the sharp rebound seen in the previous week. Both major categories declined, but the contraction was particularly pronounced in coking coal. Steam coal imports fell 15.5% to 2.98 MT, while coking coal dropped 39.7% to 0.87 MT.
The steam-coal decline was led by Indonesia, which remained India’s largest supplier at 1.56 MT, followed by South Africa at 0.67 MT and the United States at 0.32 MT. Together, these three origins accounted for about 85% of weekly steam-coal arrivals.
