India imported 2.37 million tonnes of steam coal during the week, with Indonesia accounting for more than half the volume, followed by the United States and Russia.
At first glance, the continued inflow of imported thermal coal may appear surprising given that India's coal-fired power generation has recently moderated due to an early monsoon, stronger hydro generation and growing renewable output.
