India’s coal imports surged 23.7% week-on-week to 4.97 MT during 11–17 October, reversing the decline recorded in the previous week. Both major categories strengthened, with steam coal imports rising 32.2% to 3.52 MT, while coking coal increased 7.0% to 1.45 MT.
The rebound in thermal coal was led overwhelmingly by Indonesia, which supplied 2.67 MT, accounting for about 76% of India’s steam coal arrivals. South Africa contributed 0.50 MT, followed by the United States and Mozambique. On the coking side, Australia remained the dominant supplier at 0.83 MT, while Russia supplied another 0.33 MT.
