India’s coal imports fell sharply during 13–19 September 2026, with combined steam and coking coal arrivals declining to 2.73 million tonnes (MT) from 4.00 MT in the previous week — a drop of about 31.8%.
Steam coal imports fell 18.4% to 1.80 MT, while coking coal shipments dropped almost 48.3% to 0.93 MT. Indonesia remained the leading thermal-coal supplier at 1.23 MT, while Australia supplied 0.59 MT of coking coal, followed by Mozambique and Russia.
