Central Coalfields is aiming to install 80-megawatt peak solar power plant this fiscal year, the state-owned arm of Coal India Limited told media. The company said that it will also install solar plants on rooftops as green energy will reduce day-time demand.

“Apart from rooftop solar projects, Central Coalfields is also awarding work for a 20-megawatt peak solar power plant at Piparwar, which is expected to be installed in the current financial year 2020-2021,” the company stated in its recent report.

Additionally, it is also planning to install the 80-megawatt peak ground-mounted solar power at different command areas of Central Coalfields during the financial year 2020-2021.

In a related development, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) commissioned 400 kilowatts peak solar power plant at Darbhanga House, the headquarters of Central Coalfields.

“Rooftop grid-connected solar power plants of total capacity 220 kilowatts peak, 125 kilowatts peak and 50 kilowatts peak...have been installed and commissioned,” it said.

Until now Central Coalfields has generated more than 7.2 lakh units of solar power with the installed solar power plants.

Coal India Limited and NLC India had recently entered into a joint venture to develop 5,000 megawatts of solar and thermal power assets across the country.

As on date, Coal India Limited accounts for over 80% of domestic coal output.
